Wrap up workshop of training programme on using remote sensing
techniques in apprising impact of irrigation projects rehabilitation
In collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the General Organization of Remote sensing; the National Agricultural Policy Center ( NAPC), organized a Wrap up workshop of the training program “applying remote sensing technology to assess the impact of FAO’s irrigation rehabilitation projects on agricultural production.
The workshop was held on November 14th in the NAPC premises and was attended by his Excellency the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Mr Ahamd Fateh Alqadiri, the FAO representative Mr. Mick Robenson, and the Director General of the General organization of Remote Sensing. His Excellency the Minister with the other principals handed over the certificates to the trainers and trainees, then he toured the center’ training halls where he was briefed on the findings of the study about the projects which were implemented in Homs and Aleppo governorates.
With the participation of technicians from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Water Resources, and the General Organization of Remote Sensing, three training courses on using remote sensing to assess the impact of the rehabilitation projects had already been organized. This included two introductory courses in Aleppo and one intensive quality course had been held in Damascus.

A training course on CFSAM survey
National Agricultural Policy Center (NAPC), in collaboration with
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO),
conducted an introductory training course for participants in
2018-2019 CFSAM (Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission) survey,
organized jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform
(MAAR) and FAO in July 2019, from 6th to 13th July 2019 in NAPC
training hall. The course was attended by 63 trainees of technical
staff of MAAR directorates in surveyed governorates, besides staff
from MAAR Directorate of Panning and International Cooperation..

Courses of “Enhancing Food Security Information and Early Warning
Systems” Project at the National Agricultural Policy Center (NAPC)
Within the framework of "Enhancing Food Security Information and Early Warning Systems project” signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform (MAAR) and FAO, FAO carried out 4 specialized courses at NAPC, jointly organized by FAO and the Center, with the training offered by FAO and NAPC, besides other experts.
The courses were attended by 35 trainees from MAAR, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Water Resources, Planning and International Cooperation Commission, and
Central Bureau of Statistics..

Introductory Training Course on Value Chain
National Agricultural Policy Center (NAPC), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, carried out a training course on value chain analysis, from 2/9/2018 to 6/9/2018 with the participation of trainees from NAPC and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform (MAAR), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Commission, Exports and Production Support and Development Agency, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, Faculty of Agriculture (Damascus University), Federation of Syrian Chambers of Agriculture, General Union of Peasants, and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The lecturers addressed qualitative and quantitative analysis tools of
value chain, and explained the value chain software and other
statistical programs useful in analyzing and evaluating commodity
chains.

A specialized course on time series analysis
National Agricultural Policy Center (NAPC), in collaboration with
the General Commission for Scientific Agricultural Research (GCSAR)
and Aleppo University, held a specialized course in NAPC training
hall on "Time Series Analysis" from 7th to 16th May 2018, with the
participation of 11 trainees from NAPC. The course included a
presentation on traditional mathematical models of time series, as
well as Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model, used
to predict future values. The course included practical exercises on
these models.

Workshop on the study “the Syrian green corridor: Penetrating eastern
markets through the sea" In line with its activities aiming at promoting Syrian agricultural
trade, the National Agricultural Policy Center under the aegis of
his Excellency the Minister of Agriculture Mr. Ahamd Alqadri, a
workshop about a recently released study titled “the Syrian green
corridor: Penetrating eastern markets through sea” was organized. The
workshop was held at the ministry’s meeting hall on July 10th, and
was attended by representatives from directorates of the Ministry of
Agriculture, as well as representatives from ministries of economy,
transport, planning and international cooperation commission ,
Export Development and Promotion Agency EDPA, Union of Syrian
Exporters , and Syrian agriculture chambers.

Workshop on “olive oil and its products
(opportunities, challenges, and prospects)
In the framework of the
Memorandum of Understanding signed between the NAPC and the Export
Development and Promotion Agency (EDPA), a workshop about "olive oil
and its products (opportunities, challenges, and prospects)" was
organized in January 15th, at the premises of the EDPA. Engineer
Mahmood Babili the head of trade division of the NAPC made a
presentation tilted “The value chain of the Syrian olive oil and its
export opportunities"...

Workshop on “Syrian foreign trade and export opportunities for
certain products (functional food)”
In the framework of the
Memorandum of Understanding signed between the NAPC and the Export
Development and Promotion Agency (EDPA), which emphasizes on
organizing mutual scientific activities; a workshop was held in the
headquarters of EDPA on November 13th. The workshop titled
“the Syrian foreign trade and export opportunities of certain
products (functional food). The workshop commenced with two
speeches by Mr Ihab Ismandar the director of EDPA, and Engineer
Usama Alsaadi the director of the NAPC. This was followed by a
presentation titled “analyzing Syrian trade 2011-2013 “by Mr
Ismandar, then by a presentation titled “the prospects of producing
and exporting functional food in Syria, Russia example” by Mr
Mahmood Babili the head of trade division of the NAPC. The workshop
also included a presentation titled “ A proposal of common market
between Syria- Lebanon - Iraq - Iran : exploring agricultural trade
opportunities , by Mr. Babili. The workshop was concluded by general
discussion.

Memorandum of understanding between the NAPC and the Export
Development and promotion Agency EDPA
As
part of the ongoing collaboration and coordination between the NAPC
and the Export Development and Promotion Agency EDPA, aiming at
realizing the objectives of the NAPC and the EDPA in enhancing the
agricultural trade especially export in order to achieve sustainable
development in Syria; a Memorandum of understanding between the two
parties was signed on October 30th at the headquarters of the EDPA.
The memorandum points to undertaking mutual studies on opening new
markets for the agricultural and agroprocessed products, while
increasing their competitive advantage in global markets.

NAPC cooperation with the Directorate of Livestock Development
Project (DLDP)
Under the technical cooperation
among the MAAR directorates, and
part of the duties and activities of the NAPC in the field of policy
analysis and researches on economic and social aspects; the NAPC has
signed a memorandum of understanding with the DLDP to conduct a
survey study and other activates such as providing training the
staff of the DLDP.
